Legends Car - NELCAR Legends Tour
Karting at Oxford, Richmond, 106 and VLK
Hop in and drive
Evan gave the fans something else
to cheer about this weekend, as he always does at the Richmond Karting
Speedway. Arriving to the track to work, Todd Jackson asked him to
pilot the 9 mini cup car that is usually driven by Robert Patten, as he
was in Las Vegas for the weekend, Evan agreed and ran the practice and
went straight out for the race after that, with nothing done to the car
but extra padding and blocks on the pedals so Evan could reach. Racing
in only his first Mid Coast Mini Cup race, Evan drew the pole on his
birthday and would start in the front. During the 100 lap feature, Evan
would lead all the way up to around lap 65 when the 55 of Larry
Marshall got into the back of Evan coming out of turn two, and turning
him. After numerous failed attempts to get a lap in, the field finally
did and Evan went right to the front once again and pulled away and
kept the champion Marshall in his mirror while the 55x of Santina Snow
ended up third. "Awesome, just awesome, didn't even change a thing and
we went out and ran like that, this car was set up good and I had to
really drive it and Larry wasn't giving it to me, gotta thank Todd and
Mr. Patten for letting me drive this car today, what an awesome win,"
Evan concluded after the race. Evan is racing this weekend at Rt. 106
Racepark on Sunday, with practice and qualifying on Saturday. Come on
over and support team 56!

They knew we were fast
The 2nd Annual Dash For Cash at Richmond Karting Speedway
was held this past Saturday, October 11th, and it was the biggest purse
for a kart race in Maine, $1000 to the winner. EMB Motorsports had two
drivers in the race, Evan Beaulieu driving the 56 Blaze Octane and
Kendall Curit piloting the 48 Inferno Champ Kart. The day started with
practice where both karts were fast early on with Evan running down
anything he could find and once Kendall got a heat cycle on his tires
he was going just as good. There were 20 karts at the track there, and
the field
was
to be set by two heat races and a 'consi' race, each consisting of ten
karts. For the first two heats the top five would get into the race
while the remaining ten would run the consi to determine the rest of
the field, Kendall started third in the first heat while Evan would
start last in tenth in the same heat. Evan drove up to fifth while
Kendall held the fourth spot, and that's the way they end it as Evan
held of DJ Shaw to get both karts into the race through
their heats and they would start seventh and ninth. Race time came
around and once the green waved on the 100 lap feature, it didn't take
long before Evan was up to the front, at the first caution at lap
three, Evan was already up to the fifth
spot. While there was a slew of
cautions that slowed the pace numerous times, Evan rode behind the 11k
of Tyler King and the 55 of Ryan Hewins for most of the first half of
the first 50 laps. With a pit stop coming around lap 30, Evan rode in
5th and fought his way back
to the front after. It would take Evan until lap 44 to take command at
the front of the field as he passed Hewins for the lead. At the halfway
break Evan held the lead while Kendall quietly rode in
5th. On the restart Hewins took the lead but Evan fought right back to
the lead, and led for pretty much the entire second half, even when he
got shuffled back to fifth on a restart, but Kevin Hutchens got
together with DJ Shaw for the lead and Evan drove through the wreck and
emerged as the new leader. Evan led from that point and had a half
track lead until a caution flew with two laps to go for the 42 of
Stephen Morsillo spinning on the frontstretch. Meanwhile Kendall's day
ended early, as he got together with Ryan Ripley and broke the left
rear hub off the kart with three laps to go. On the
final restart Evan got a jump, and had the lead when the white flag
flew when King pulled a move on Evan going into turn one and slammed
Evan up the track, forcing Evan to settle for a 3rd place finish after
coming so close. "I mean, he drove me off the track basically, congrats
to him and the King family, but that ain't a way you win a race," Evan
concluded after the race, "He could of at least tried
to pass me clean, but he didn't, and I lost all respect for him, but
damn, this 56 kart was fast all day and I gotta thank my dad for
putting such a great piece underneath me." But under the circumstances,
Evan and Todd handled themselves like proffesionals, and congratulated
the King family. While not exactly what they were hoping for, Evan and
Todd got $200 out of it and the race overall went well, with Evan
ending up third and Kendall ending his day in 11th. That will conclude
the 2008 season, with the next schedule race for EMB Motorsports in
Febuary for the Winter Nationals down in Orlando, FL. Keep checking
back here though for updates, including an all new layout for the
website in 2009. Hope to see you in '09!
Back in Black once again
One of the biggest kart races in
New England, the PaveTek 600, the final points race at the Richmond
Karting Speedway. Evan and Todd Beaulieu knew what it took to win this
race, they had already done it twice before when it was under the Pepsi
500 name. When they unloaded Saturday morning, they had one fast kart,
but it wasn't just Evan behind the wheel of an EMB Motorsports kart,
Kendall Curit, who ran in the Animal division in 2006 against Evan, was
behind the wheel of the 56 Inferno Champ for the Animal division while
Evan piloted his 56 Blaze Octane in the Sr. Sportsman class. Kendall
drove the makeup race for experience on Saturday while Evan focused on
scoring at the track and not ruining a chance at the big show on
Sunday. Kendall ran a good clean race and ended up third in the race.
Qualifying for the PaveTek 600 was immediatly after qualifying, and
Evan showed that he had the kart to beat, taking the pole position with
a time of 11.001, Tyler King qualifyed second. In the animal class
Kendall qualified 3rd with a 11.342 second lap. Once raceday came
around, the team knew they had something special. When the Sr.
Sportsman race went green, it was all Evan up front in the 80 lap
feature. While running with the lapped karts though he was passed by
the 11 of Tyler King, but Evan got back around him as the two traded
the lead until the end of segment two. When the drivers got out of the
karts Todd Jackson interviewed Evan at the halway point, "Well, it's
been a great race so far, Tyler's impressed me this is only like his
third race in this division and he's ran me clean and we are having
fun, I wasn't running lapped karts too hard I didn't want Almon to go a
lap down he's a good friend of mine but once Tyler got to me I just had
to go, but hopefully we can stick it out for the rest of this." When
the green flew again Evan got a lousy start and went back to fourth,
but while caution after caution came out, Evan worked his way back to
the bumper of King and took the lead with about ten laps to go and set
sail to take the win! "We just gotta do this is in the dash and we'll
be all set," Evan said after the race. NEXT SATURDAY, is the 2nd Annual
Dash For Cash, $1000 to win in the Sr. Sportsman class, and you know
the 56 team will be a force to be reckoned with. Come out and support
team 56 and Richmond Karting Speedway!
Not how we wanted to end this..
The Nelcar Legends were back to the
Unity Raceway this past weekend for the final points race for the
Nelcar Legends Series. Evan had no shot at the title after missing the
Oxford races this season, but he wanted a win to end out the season. In
the one and only practice for the day, Evan was fast right off, just as
he was the last time the series went to Unity. "I'm pumped for the
race, we got a fast car, we got a shot at winning," Evan said prior to
the race. The heat race would begin, and Evan drove from his eighth
starting spot to fourth in the first two laps, until Evan felt a
vibration in the car, and almost went off the track as he brought the
56 Hancock Lumber machine back into the pits. The bolts holding the
driveshaft had loosened, and it would've been worse had Evan not bring
the car in. With the help of great people like Rick, Bob, Terry and Ed,
they got it fixed just before the feature. Evan started eighth again,
and quickly made a bid to the front. While running with the 33 of Alan
Smith for the fifth spot, he made contact with the left side of Evan's
car and send Evan off into the dirt off the backstretch, sending Evan
for a spin. No caution came out and Evan quickly got back on track, but
wasn't able to make up any ground, ending up a lap down in sixth. The
season is now over and Evan finishes seventh in the final points. We'd
like to thank our great sponsor Hancock Lumber for their support
throughout the season. Along with Copp Excavating, Fast Track Racing
Products, Beaulieu Construction and Short Track Sim. We are just
getting started and 2009 will be quite a year!
What an improvement
The last time the Nelcar Legends
Car Series came to Lee USA Speedway, the 56 team struggled to find the
handle on the car. With tonights card including two features, the team
came in trying to prove they can be fast anywhere. In practice the car
lacked front grip so they switched tires, hopefully helping the handle
on the 56 car. During the first feature Evan started on the pole, but
quickly fell back in the pack with
the
car not wanted to get out of the corner at all, and with the long
straightaways at Lee it was going to be a challenge. Evan would end up
ninth in the first feature. But the team as always showed their
determination to improve, crew chief Todd Beaulieu made an adjustment
in the rear end, and what a difference it made. Evan once again started
on the pole alongside the 7 of Patrick
Stewart, but instead of going nowhere he went somewhere! Pulling out to
a half a straightaway lead earl
y
on until a caution on lap three slowed the field. This set up for the
dominator at Lee, Shaun Buffington to start
on the outside of Evan. When the green flag flew Buffington took off
with Max Zachem in tow, but Evan just hung back in third just waiting
for something to happen and learning
alot from the two veterens. The 18 of Tom Gray got around Evan around
the halfway point and it looked like the 56 team was going to get a
solid fourth place finish until a caution with two laps to go came out.
That set Evan on the outside for the restart and after getting a good
start, couldn't get to the bottom as Charlie Buxton and Bob Weymouth
got around him, while Evan had to settle for sixth. "We had a great
car, I was learning alot running with Zachem and Buffington and when
Gray got to me I knew he was faster than me so I just let him go while
we had a good distance
on fifth, but all in all we had a great day we improved alot, and man
I'm excited for Unity next week, we were fast there last time probably
had a car capable of winning, just need to piece it all together to get
it," Evan said after the race. That's right the series is back at Unity
next Friday night! Come on down and support team 56 as they try to get
to victory lane for the first time.
From worst to just about first
Oxford Plains Speedway was
the host for the racing on Friday night, August 22nd, for the annual
Kart Klash, the final kart race
at the track. Evan and Todd were back after dominating the track the
last couple times they had ran. With just two practice sessions, Evan ran
probably five laps in the first one and pulled the kart in and was done
for the rest of practice. The schedule for the race did not include a
heat race, and just
like the last time Evan raced there, Evan
drew last place in the 14 kart field. Last time he finished third and
tonight he was looking to improve on
that finish. The race began and
right from the start Evan was fast, but on the second lap, a spinning
kart slammed into the right front of Evan's kart,
and while riding around under caution the clutch guard flew off, but
Evan would continue. Green flag flying
again Evan flew to the front but once again was slowed by caution. Once
the caution was over the green flag flew but another kart spun on the
start, and Evan had nowhere to go, as he T-boned the kart and collected
the 22 of Dan
Pelletier. But Evan once again got the kart back going
and would restart in the back. On the next green flag Evan had to run
his kart into the grass to avoid a wreck,
finally pulling off the nose of his kart, but Evan didn't stop. On the
next and to be final green flag run, Evan went around the field and was
looking real strong, passing the
88 of Andy Field and the 8 of Dave Farrington and set his sights on the
leader, the 70 of Tyler Braunsweig. Going for the lead with three to
go, the 56 kart started sputtering, the
kart was out of gas, but
Evan would hold on to finish second. "We had an awesome kart my dad
does a great job setting this kart up, we just couldn't stay out of
trouble, but going
for the win at the end is pretty impressive even to me but that
is why you never give up until the checkered flag
flies," Evan said jubiantly after the race. Evan would like to congratulate
the 70 Tyler Braunchsweig on his win in the Kart Klash.
Piecing it back together
Richmond
Karting Speedway wasn't originally on the schedule for team 56 this
past Sunday, August 24th, but when Todd rolled into the track with the
trailer on the
back, Evan talked him right into repairing the kart after the Kart
Klash and running the race as a test for the end of the year races.
That's what they did, stitching the front nose back together with wire
ties and duct tape, Evan's kart was ready to race once again. But
the kart didn't take a single lap before practice, so they didn't
really know what they were up against. During the heat Evan went from
the second starting spot and flew to
the front, and just pulled
away with the win in front of the 87 of Tate Hodgdon. Although he won
the heat, Evan would have to start at the rear of the field in the Sr.
Sportsman
feature due to the fact that he won the last race he ran
with the division. So from the 12th starting spot Evan pulled behind
points leader Willie Pelotte as he pushed him to the
front of the
field. Not many cautions slowed the duo either. But as the got the
third spot, Evan went around Willie to take third, and towards the
halfway point, Evan went three
wide on Hodgdon and the 70 of Tyler Braunchweig, taking the lead with
the pass going into turn one. FOr the rest of the race it was Evan
leading until about eight laps to go when Hodgdon took
the lead back and Evan fell back to second. Going for the lead with two
laps to go, Evan couldn't get him and gave into third place Willie
Pelotte, giving Evan third at the end of the race. "Well,
for just
piecing this kart back together, we did good, but we need to find
something to beat the 87," Evan said with a laugh, "And then when
Willie got to
my inside I told him at the beginning of the race I
wasn't going to hurt his point chances, but we ran well and we'll have
something for them in the Dash at the end of the year."
Nights Like This are Frusturating
The EMB Motorsports crew unloaded at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this
past Thursday, August 21st for the next to last race
on the Thursday Night Thunder schedule. Evan Beaulieu, behind the wheel
of the 56 Hancock Lumber Chevy was quick right
from the get go in practice, being one of the top five cars in the only
practice for the night. Racing would begin with
Evan starting the race from the eighth starting spot. As the field in
front of him spread out three wide in front of him, Evan
was up to fourth by lap two and running behind the 4 of Adam Polvenin
as the 23 of Chris Seavey and the 20 of Max Zachem lead.
Evan worked Polvenin hard the whole race, trying to get around him
anyway he could, but Polvenin wasn't letting up. That's how it
went
the whole race until the final lap when Evan finally got a good run on
Polvenin, but down the backstretch he cut Evan off, forcing Evan off
the track and the 9 of Russ
Nutting
got into him as well. Ending both of their runs. "It's real
frusturating, the whole race he was chopping me and mirror driving, and
we work hard
the whole race and to have that happen on the last lap is just
frusturating," Evan said after the race. Next Thursday the
series is back at Beech Ridge for the final time of '08 on Thursday,
August 28th. Come out and support the 56 team!
Just got behind
The
team rolled into Beech Ridge again this past Thursday, August 14th,
with hopes to improve as they have weekly. With a 20 car field with
drivers from anywhere between Connecticut all the way up to Ontario,
Canada, Evan and Todd were ready to show what they had. And with the
support of their biggest fans, Annie and Danielle, it was going to be a
great night of racing! In practice, the track was pretty wet from the
rain that dropped earlier, so Evan had a real hard time figuring out
what the car was doing, but right before the race, Todd suggested a
tweak. It
was race time and at the drop of the green flag Evan took off
from his sixth starting position, just to miss a wreck coming out of
turn two that brought out the first caution. Evan would restart in
sixth
again, but this time not as good as he got a real bad start and
dropped as far as 12th in the running order. In the next five laps
though, Evan worked his way up to ninth and rode there with a very fast
racecar but just couldn't make up the time he lost earlier, as he wound
up ninth. "I'm pretty excited about how fast the car was tonight, it
was real good and it went where I wanted it too and here at the Ridge
that's very important," Evan said after the race. Due to the
cancellation of this weekends race at Wiscasset, Evan's next ride in
the car is next Thursday night once again at Beech Ridge. Come support
team 56!
Knocking down
a few trees along the way
Back
at Wiscasset Raceway, and the result, well wasn't exactly great. The 56
team unloaded and the car was fast from the start. After a long rain
delay, the action o
n
the track
finally began. Heat racing started and
Evan started fourth and quickly made up ground and settled
right behind
the battle for the lead between the 10 of
Ed Getty and the 99 of
Charlie Buxton. That's the way it ended, as Evan had to
settle for
third. In the feature, Evan once again started fourth. Evan got a good
jump on the start but Buxton spun around in turn two and slowed the
pace again. On the nex
t
restart, Evan fell back to fifth, but quickly
marched his way back up to second behind Getty. He wasn't
able
to keep
up with Getty's blistering pace but he did stay in second until the 20
of Max Zachem and the 60 of Bob Weymouth got around him and Evan
dropped back to fourth. With two laps to go, Getty and Zachem made
contact, sending the top three into a spin. Evan went high to avoid the
wreck, but due to moisture on the racetrack from the early rain, Evan
lost control of his car, and slid off the turn three and into the wet
grass down the hill, and slam into the trees. Evan though climbed out
of the car and walked up the hill and waved
to the fans telling them he
was ok. "Rough wreck, just they all spun, and I don't know from there,
I saw Bob spin and I knew there would be room up high, but the car just
lost all control and I went off," Evan said after the wreck, "The car's
ok, just looks like the front fender a bit and the bumper is messed up
but that ain't hard to fix and we'll be back next Saturday to try
again."
Donuts and all
The
56 team was back at the Richmond Karting Speedway this past weekend
with the go-kart, one of the few trips the team will make to race the
kart. The day started early in practice, as Evan ran only about eight
laps in the first, and skipped the next two as the kart was real good.
Heat racing began and Beaulieu was on the pole. It was the 14 of
Santina Snow though that go the lead going into turn one as Evan's kart
did not have a very good starting gear. But going into turn three on
that same lap Evan was back in the lead and set sail as he took the
heat win right in front of the 7 of Bobby Timmons who got second. The
feature racing was awesome. It started once again with Evan slow on the
start and the 18 of Brandon Douglas getting the lead, while Evan
dropped all the way back to fourth, but quickly made up the lost ground
until a caution came out with Evan sitting second. The field came back
to the green flag and Evan finally got a good jump and took the lead on
the outside of Douglas. A few cautions and a close call with a couple
of lapped karts didn't stop Evan, as he took the win, celebrating with
donuts along the frontstretch. "Awesome run by this kart, can't thank
my dad enough, we kept the seatbelts on (lol) and the kart was
unbeatable today it was just so fast, I can't thank my dad enough and
Bill and Roger and the whole staff here for keeping this track great,"
Evan said after the win. Evan's next appearance in a kart will be for
the Kart Klash and Oxford Plains in late August.
Beech Ridge
during the day
Evan
and Todd were back at it this past Sunday, for the Regional National Qualifier at the Beech
Ridge Motor Speedway. The top finishing driver in each division gets a
guarantee
spot in the Legends National in Elko, Minesotta. The day was calling
for rain in the area, but that didn't stop the racing. It started with
heat races, after starting third, the 18 of Tom Gray got into the
side
of the 399 of Bob Weymouth while racing for the lead, giving Evan the
lead. Evan pulled out
to a full straightaway lead at one point. A late race charge from the
23 of Shawn Buffington was all
Evan had to worry about, as he took his first competitive win in a
Legends Car. That put Evan on the pole for the feature. The field went
green but Buffington got the lead from Evan coming out of turn two.
Evan rode there for the next few laps, until the 10 of Ed Getty went
around him along with the 20 of Max Zachem. A late race caution for the
7 of Patrick Stewart put Evan in fourth for the restart. Zachem had a
problem with his shifter and slowed tremendously, allowing the 399 of
Bob Weymouth to get by while Evan got around Zachem. A charge from the
27 of Terry Kirk at the end left
Evan with a fifth place finish, and the highest finishing Semi-Pro,
giving him a guarantee spot in the National if the team decides to go.
"I was focused on the big picture more today, just wanted to beat the
other Semi-Pro's and that's what we did, car ran good, we got a force
for Thursday night," Evan concluded after the race. The series is back
in action next Thursday night again at Beech Ridge.
Headed up to Unity
Team
56 went for the long haul this past Friday, for the first time in four
years the Nelcar Legends Car Series was back at Unity Raceway. The day
started with the heats on the rough Unity racetrack. Evan started fifth
and ended up finishing there as well, being caught behind from the
start he just never could make it around the guys in front of him
although the 56 car was much faster. In the feature, Evan once again
started fifth and after a great battle with the 17 of Terry Kirk, ended
up a solid fourth. "I'm real excited after today's run to come back
here in September, we found a few things this past week and it's really
helped the handle on this car, we were fast," Evan said at the
conclusion of the race. The next race at Unity is scheduled for
September 5th.
Up front and
looking good!
Team
56 arrived at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for a beautiful day of
racing finally after two weeks of being rained out of Thursday Night
Thunder. The action started in practice,
as Evan drove the 56 and showed he was a top five contender, passing
cars and
running fast while being just a little free through the corners, but
just how he liked driving it. For the feature of the night, Evan was to
start on the
pole with the 06 of Dana Reed on his outside. Evan took off with a
great start and the 21 of Chris Sargent followed into second. Evan
pulled away a bit during that run until the 0 of Dustin Reynolds came
around lap ten and got around Sargent. He set his sights on Evan and
got around Evan on lap 12. Chris Seavey, Max Zachem and Bob Weymouth
also followed bringing Evan back to 5th, right where he would end up at
the end of the race. "That was a blast while I was leading, but I
wasn't going to ruin it, I raced them clean and gave them all plenty of
room when they got to me, and I hope I gained some respect tonight,"
Evan said after the race. Team 56 will be back next Thursday, hoping to
lead some more and improve on their run.
Damn seatbelts
Team 56 was back in action this past weekend at
the Richmond Karting Speeday. A full weekend or racing was in store as
they brought the kart out once again to have a little fun in the Animal
division. Evan was fast early on, with time trials in place for
Saturday's races, Evan grabbed the pole! Fast from the start as well as
Evan pulled away from the field. But while racing for the lead with the 7 of Bobby Timmons, the two
got tangled up with the lapped kart of Santina Snow, knocking Evan's
seatbelt out of place and getting wrapped into the chain and braking
the chain and guard, ending Evan's bid for a win. "I saw the 14, and I
knew I wasn't letting off or going high because the 7 would've gone low
so I went low and just got into her, my fault completely, we will be
back," Evan explained after the race. Sunday the team was back in
action, with the kart fixed the team was fast as ever. Since the field
was set by inverted points, Evan once again got the top spot during the
heat. Evan pulled away early, but a caution for the 8 of Tucker Lewis
bunched up the field for a green white checkered finish.
Evan ran the white line and just barely beat Timmons to the line.
Feature racing was to begin and
Evan pulled away once again, a half track lead crew chief Todd Beaulieu
said at one point. Until the right shoulder belt came undone and
started dragging on the track. Evan had to pit under caution and get it
fixed. Then on the restart the field Evan got behind a bit and had to
drive even more to get to the front, in 8 laps he passed the field and
was on the bumper of Timmons but Timmons took the checkered
flag. "That sucked, time for me to check my belts everytime now. Then
on that restart we were never given one to go and that put us way
behind. But all in all they knew we were fast and we'll be back," Evan
said after the race. Great weekend of racing and Evan would like to
thank Bill, Roger, Alicia and all the staff at RKS for making it the
best karting track in New England!
No Racing sucks
Hey
fans, this is Evan. We've been pretty idle lately, our last four races
in the Legends Car have been either rained out or cancelled. You can
even count our trip to 106 RacePark, altough we got practice in all
day, rains came in later and postponed the show until September. We
were fast though, racing against National Champs the 56 was pulling
away like it was nothing. We will be having an autograph session this
thursday, July 10th, at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway after the races.
Come support the 56! Another way to show your support is order a
t-shirt. Send me an e-mail at BeaulieuBoy56@yahoo.com for more info on
how to get a Hancock Lumber Racing/56 - Evan Beaulieu shirt. We will
also be racing Saturday and Sunday this weekend at Richmond Karting
Speedway. Come out and see the 56 fly to the front. And don't forget
the newly added event, July 25th at Unity Raceway. Thanks again for all
your support! See you at the track! - Evan
Beaulieu

An exciting run..
The
56 team is getting faster and faster every week, and this past Saturday
night at Wiscasset showed it. The 56 Hancock Lumber Chevy with driver
Evan Beaulieu was fast throughout practice and was ready to contend for
that first top three. When the heats started though Evan had to pull
the car in with a broken motor mount. With the help of the great people
in the Nelcar pits, Todd and Evan got it fixed and the car was ready
for the feature. When the feature went green Evan took off from the
fourth starting spot and settled into second behind the 17 of Terry
Kirk. Evan ran the apron in one and two trying to find a way around
Kirk when the caution flew when the 7 of Patrick Stewart slammed the
backstretch wall. When the green flew again Kirk got the jump, but Evan
fought back on the outside and grabbed and in the process led his first
lap of legends car competition until the 57 of Jason Palmer took them
three wide and took the lead as Evan charged to second. Max Zachem in
the 20 found his way around to take second and Evan settled into third
until about the halfway point. With the car getting looser and looser
every lap, it finally went around on Evan coming out of turn two
collecting the 399 of Bob Weymouth and heavy damage to the 10 of Ed
Getty. The accident left Evan's car with only the oil filter not
intact, but the team could not continue on. They will be back next
Thursday night at the Beech Ridge Motorspeedway and are going to visit
Wiscasset again July 6th to finish their top three run.
TNT Week 2:
14th

TNT,
the most exciting racing you can find on a Thursday night. This past
week was no exception as the best that Legends
cars had
to
offer was on the plate last Thursday. A flag to flag race which was won
by one of the best in the business, Terry T.W. Kirk. Meanwhile, team 56
didn't
fare out so well. After starting on the pole and settling in second
behind Kirk for a few laps, Evan made a rookie mistake and gave up the
bottom again out of turn four and let the 10 of Ed Getty get around
him, leading Evan to a 14th place finish with an ill handling car. "The
track really threw us a curveball this weekend, we made a few
adjustments, one that was a big one, and we still couldn't get the car
to roll like we wanted, and I gave up the bottom and learned how bad
that is, but I still got eight more weeks to figure it out," Evan said
after the race. The series is back in action this Saturday, June 21st
at the Wiscasset Raceway!
Guess whos back?
Saturday
night and back in the kart at the track that has been Evan's home for
years, the newly renamed Richmond Karting
Speedway. Evan had not taken to the track since last year in the Dash
For Cash, but it didn't show. The day started with the heat race in the
Sr.
Sportsman class in the unrestricted flathead. Evan darted to the front
like a "Man on a Mission," making a three wide through the middle pass
and
getting into second after just three laps after
starting
eleventh. After riding in second for a few laps Evan took the lead away
from the 88 of Ann
Shaw and set sail, but a caution would come out and while riding under
yellow, the chain broke on the 56 kart. But thanks
to the great teams at RKS, Evan was able to get it fixed under yellow
and get back on the track without losing a lap. Evan made one last
charge, but could only get the fourth. Feature racing was next and
Evan, due
to last weeks winner getting thrown to the rear, would start third. He
didn't last there long though. After riding behind the 62 of Cameron
Creamer for about five laps,
he slipped up a bit and Evan got the run underneath
and took the lead. After a late race
caution
and one last charge from Creamer, it wasn't enough to take Evan from
scoring win 53 and his 43rd at Richmond. "Well I knew what the
62 wanted
and that was for me to slip up in turn one, I was cautionous and once I
got out of turn two with the lead I knew we had it," Evan said
jubliantly
in Victory Lane, "this is awesome, to come back to my home and get a
win, I know alot of people like seeing
this 56 win, and I didn't let them down." This would be Evan's only
race of the weekend as the race on Sunday was rained out. Evan will be
back in action at Richmond on Sunday, September 28th for the Pave-Tek
600.
TNT Week 1: 10th
Team
56 arrived to Beech Ridge Motorspeedway for the first time this past
Thursday, June 12th to begin the ten week Thursday Night Thunder
series. The race started as there is only the one feature race and Evan
took off from the sixth starting position and ran fifth for the first
few laps until he got loose out of turn four and started to get freight
trained to the rear. Dodging a few wrecks and some intense action, Evan
wound up tenth out of the seventeen car field.
Finish What We
Started
After the rain delayed races from May 23rd, the 56 team was back to
Oxford Plains Friday night in the #56 Kart, picking
up right where they
left off, being fast! In the make-up feature,
due to running his first
race at Oxford even though he won the heat, he had to start
at
the rear
once again.
He worked his way through the field quickly, taking second
on lap four, but by that time the 22 of Dan Pelletier Jr. was already a
straightaway away, Evan closed in but could not make up that much
ground and had to settle for second. In the heat for the regular
racing, Evan got to start on the pole, and led every lap in the heat to
take the win! Feature racing time came, and Evan started on the pole
once again. He took off at the green flag until a caution on lap 8. On
the restart the 50 of Jeff Lillibridge got around Evan on the restart,
but his stint at the front didn't last long as Evan passed him right
back a lap later, and marched on to a huge lead en route to his first
ever feature win at Oxford Plains Speedway! "Pretty cool to come back
here and just have some fun and be as good as we were in a kart that
hadn't been really touched until last week, just an awesome win and I
gotta thank my great sponsor Hancock Lumber," Evan said after the run.
Evan is back in the Legends car though this coming Saturday, June 7th
at the Wiscasset Raceway! Come on down and see Evan compete with the
big dogs in Legends.
That was fast
Team 56 was back into karting this past weekend, at the Oxford Plains
Seedway for the Friday night go-kart races. An issue with drying the
track kept team 56 from getting in any practice in their all black 56
kart, and had to start from eleventh for the heat with the kart and
motor never taking the track. It wasn't long until Evan figured out
though, after contact with the 15 of Kayla Ashline to bring out the
first caution, the racing resumed and Evan wasted no time to get to the
front, blew by the field in just 5 laps in the 10 lap heat and easily
took the win. There were to be no feature racing though that night, as
rains came and it is now postponed until next Friday night, May 30th.
Getting faster!
Wiscasset Raceway, it's what Evan right now is calling his favorite
track. After his top ten performance May 17th, why wouldn't he? The day
started out bright, with Evan running times just about mirroring the
top competitors in practice. Todd was making the right changes to the
car and it was coming around. Heat races started with Evan starting
from the seventh position. Evan ran a clean race, and wound up sixth in
the thirteen car field. Feature races were next, Evan would start
fourth, right up at the front. Evan couldn't get his car to handle very
well on the bottom of the track so he was forced off the bottom, that
proved to be bad as he was running behind the 23 of Chris Seavey,
trying to get a run on the inside, couldn't make it happen until the 10
of Ed Getty and the 17 of Terry Kirk got around Evan for the fifth spot
and at the checkered flag Evan would come home seventh, his best finish
in the Legends car in five races and his best performance as well,
running clean right up with the best of the best. Evan now sits eigth
in the Nelcar points, but due to an age limit rule, Evan will be forced
out of the next event at Oxford Plains Speedway. Evan will though, be
running the go-kart this Fridaty night (May 23rd) at Oxford.

Never Count Out the 56
Wow
what a weekend for
team
56. Back in action during the winter months at Victory Lane Indoor
Karting in Portland, ME. The action started on
Saturday with practice. This was of course the first opportunity for
the drivers to get onto the track. The problems would start early for
team 56 as the motor started to bottom out alot in practice, reaching
very high rpms around the
track. So a gear change was made and they went back out for the second
round. No help, the kart ran for a few laps then just wouldn't want to
go at all. So Todd and Rick Buxton put a new fuel line and pump into
the kart and sent Evan back out. It fixed the problem for the next
practice, but it occured again during the last. People were
already beginning to write the 56 off the names to beat on Sunday.
Sunday came and Evan and Todd were back to the track
early. In the first and only practice given, the kart was on a rail!
Not a problem with the motor at all
and Evan was running some good times, but not faster than most. Heat
racing time came, and Evan (due to registration) was on the pole. The green
flag flew and he didn't look back, as the karts behind him were
roughing it up badly, Evan pulled away to a very nice lead and took the
checkered flag in the first heat. The second heat followed right after
and the field was inverted,
and Evan was to start at the rear of the ten kart field. He wasted no
time on making his way to the front. Evan cleanly passed by the field
and got to the front after a little run in with the 17. Evan once again
set sail in the lead and opened it up. With three laps remaining
though, Evan made a mistake around the tricky turn four, sliding the
kart around the corner as everyone was all day, Evan got on the gas a
little too early and took the kart for a half spin doing a great job by
saving it from a full spin. Evan got back on the gas quick enough and
had a big enough lead to keep the top spot and take the win. "That was
no mistake," Evan said jokingly in the pits, "that was for the fans,
nobody wants to see me take that
big of a lead and just win, gotta make it exciting." Evan of course did
no intend on making that mistake, and knew he wouldn't get away with
that again.
Feature racing began and Evan from the pole once
again drove the kart to a dominating lead, until the first caution that
was with about twenty laps of
fifty remaining. Evan's motor bottomed out on the restart and Evan was
passed by the field on his way into the pits. Luckily Evan got a
caution and after a little while in the pits trying to get it to stop
sputtering, Todd just restarted the motor and Evan flew back out of the
pits and rejoined the field for the restart as the last kart on the
lead lap in fourth. Evan took
the first two quickly but it took him longer to get
around the 3 of Almon Evans who had made his way to the
top spot with a very fast kart. Evan finally was able to catch him and
get around
in the final laps en route to the finish of his dominate day at Victory
Lane. "I got to thank my dad, my crew chief, he really got a perfect
setup into this kart and after yesterday and that motor problem in the
race people counted us out, but I showed that you never can count out
the black 56," Evan said after the race. Evan of course did a polish
victory lap around the track, and celebrated on the start/finish line.
"I gotta thank all my sponsors, Hancock Lumber, Beaulieu Construction,
56Racing.com, Bo-Mar Transportation, The Durham Get & Go, Short
Track Sim, Copp Excavating, without their support we wouldn't of had
the dominate kart we did today, this is just awesome." The series will
be back in action Febuary 24th, visit Victory Lane's Website to view
more about the event, and come down and either compete against us, or
support the black 56 as it once again will march to the front!
